Bruce Banner, a scientist on the run, hides in South America while searching for a cure to his condition, which transforms him into the Hulk when he becomes angry. He communicates secretly with Dr. Samuel Sterns, who helps him understand the gamma radiation responsible for his condition. Meanwhile, General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross hunts Banner, aiming to use the Hulkโs powers as a military weapon.
Banner returns to the U.S. when Ross closes in, reuniting with his former lover, Betty Ross. However, Ross recruits Emil Blonsky, a soldier, and injects him with a serum to rival the Hulkโs strength. Blonsky becomes increasingly obsessed with power and eventually mutates into the monstrous Abomination.
In a climactic battle, the Hulk confronts the Abomination in Harlem, using his strength to save the city. Banner gains more control over his transformations, embracing his role as a protector rather than a threat. However, his exile continues as he remains a fugitive.
