Dragon Lord (1982) is a martial arts action-comedy film starring and directed by Jackie Chan, who also served as its writer. Known for its innovative stunts and blending of physical comedy with martial arts, the film marks an important turning point in Jackie Chan’s career as he began to push the boundaries of traditional kung fu films by incorporating elaborate action choreography and comedic storytelling.

Set in ancient China, the story follows Dragon Ho (Jackie Chan), a mischievous young man who loves playing games, chasing women, and avoiding responsibility. Dragon is joined by his equally troublemaking best friend, Cowboy (Mars). Together, they often find themselves causing chaos in their small town, with their antics often landing them in trouble.

Dragonโ€™s carefree life changes when he inadvertently becomes involved in a plot to stop a gang of smugglers led by a ruthless criminal, Tiger (Hwang In-Shik). The gang is trafficking valuable Chinese artifacts to foreign buyers, and Dragon, despite his reluctance, must step up to save the day. The journey forces him to mature and take on the role of an unlikely hero.

Upon its release, Dragon Lord was well-received in Hong Kong, though it didnโ€™t achieve the same level of commercial success as some of Jackie Chanโ€™s earlier works. Over time, however, the film has gained recognition for its role in shaping the evolution of action-comedy in martial arts cinema.

Critics and fans have praised its ambitious stunts and fresh approach to the genre, as well as Jackie Chanโ€™s relentless drive to innovate. Many of the techniques and ideas introduced in Dragon Lord would become hallmarks of Jackie Chanโ€™s later films, including classics like Project A (1983) and Police Story (1985).
