Crime Story (1993) is a Hong Kong action-crime film directed by Kirk Wong and starring Jackie Chan in a rare dramatic role. Known in Cantonese as Zhong an zu (้‡ๆกˆ็ต„), the movie is based on a real-life kidnapping case and marked a departure from Jackie Chan’s usual comedic action roles, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

The story follows Inspector Eddie Chan (Jackie Chan), a tough and dedicated police officer assigned to investigate the kidnapping of a wealthy businessman, Wong Yat-fei. Wong is abducted by a gang of ruthless criminals who demand a massive ransom.

As Chan digs deeper into the case, he discovers a web of corruption and betrayal. His investigation leads him to Inspector Hung (Kent Cheng), a corrupt police officer who secretly collaborates with the kidnappers. Hung’s duplicity makes Chan’s mission even more dangerous and personal.

Crime Story is regarded as one of Jackie Chan’s finest dramatic roles and a standout entry in the Hong Kong action genre. It demonstrated Chan’s ability to excel in serious, character-driven narratives without relying solely on his comedic charm.
