The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) adapts a chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, recounting the doomed journey of the merchant ship Demeter as it transports Dracula from Romania to England. The narrative begins with the shipโ€™s discovery, wrecked and abandoned on the shores of Whitby. Through flashbacks, the audience learns about the voyage’s grim events, as Dracula preys on the crew during the night, revealing his monstrous form.

Dr. Clemens, a scientist aboard the ship, teams up with Anna, a mysterious stowaway with connections to Dracula, to confront the growing threat. As Dracula systematically eliminates the crew, panic and despair spread. The survivors attempt to fight back by setting traps and destroying Dracula’s resting place, but his supernatural powers make him nearly unstoppable. Despite their efforts, one by one, the crew meets gruesome ends, including the captain and first mate.

In a tragic climax, Anna sacrifices herself at sea to avoid becoming one of Draculaโ€™s thralls. Clemens, the sole survivor, escapes the wreckage as the ship crashes near Whitby. However, Dracula also survives and vanishes into London, setting the stage for further terror. Clemens, driven by vengeance and responsibility, vows to track Dracula and destroy him.

The film explores themes of isolation, survival, and the clash between reason and supernatural horror. Its dark, atmospheric tone and confined setting amplify the tension, delivering a gothic horror experience that is both gripping and tragicโ€‹.
