Dances with Wolves (1990) follows Union Army Lieutenant John Dunbar, who is assigned to a remote western outpost after a heroic act during the Civil War. Seeking solitude, he gradually befriends a nearby Lakota Sioux tribe, learning their ways and forming deep connections with them.

As Dunbar immerses himself in Lakota culture, he befriends Kicking Bird, a wise elder, and Wind in His Hair, a fierce warrior. He also falls in love with Stands with a Fist, a white woman raised by the tribe. Over time, he earns the tribeโ€™s trust and receives the name Dances with Wolves due to his interactions with a wild wolf.

Realizing that staying with the tribe will endanger them, Dunbar chooses to leave, ensuring their survival. He bids a sorrowful farewell to his loved ones, knowing his presence would bring the armyโ€™s wrath upon them.
