The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) follows two down-on-their-luck Americans, Fred C. Dobbs and Bob Curtin, stranded in Mexico during the 1920s. They team up with an old prospector, Howard, to search for gold in the remote Sierra Madre mountains.

After a grueling journey, they strike it rich, mining a significant amount of gold dust. However, as their fortune grows, so does paranoia, especially in Dobbs, who becomes increasingly distrustful and greedy. The men must also deal with bandits, one of whom delivers the famous line, โ€œBadges? We donโ€™t need no stinking badges!โ€

Tensions between the trio reach a breaking point when Dobbs, consumed by greed, betrays Curtin and leaves him for dead. As he flees with the gold, he is ambushed and killed by bandits, who unknowingly discard the treasure as worthless sand.

Howard, returning to a village where he is revered as a wise elder, laughs at the cruel irony of their lost fortune. Curtin, having survived Dobbsโ€™ attack, chooses to move on, realizing wealth was never the true reward.

A gripping tale of greed, survival, and human nature, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre remains a timeless classic, showcasing how ambition can lead to both fortune and downfall.
