Deep Blue Sea 3 is a science-fiction horror thriller that serves as a continuation of the Deep Blue Sea franchise, known for its focus on genetically altered, hyper-intelligent sharks. Directed by John Pogue, the film was released on July 28, 2020, directly to digital and home video platforms. The third film in the series retains its core theme of humans playing god with nature and suffering the deadly consequences.

The story takes place on a floating research station called Little Happy, a small artificial island off the coast of Mozambique. Marine biologist Dr. Emma Collins (played by Tania Raymonde) leads a team of researchers studying the behavior of great white sharks in the area. Their primary focus is on how climate change is affecting shark migration and feeding patterns. The remote location is serene and peaceful, and Emmaโ€™s team is dedicated to protecting marine life.

However, their tranquil existence is shattered when a group of mercenaries arrives, led by Richard Lowell (Nathaniel Buzolic). Richard, who has ties to Emma’s past, claims to be tracking three genetically engineered bull sharks that escaped from the experiments seen in the second film, Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018). These sharks, originally designed by the biotech company to be super-intelligent and aggressive, have become even more dangerous in the wild. What Richard doesn’t tell Emma at first is that these sharks are also the key to a lucrative biotech breakthrough involving their brain chemistry.

It quickly becomes apparent that the sharks are far more intelligent and deadly than anticipated. The bull sharks are not only hunting for food but also demonstrating strategic and highly coordinated behavior. The stakes escalate when the sharks begin attacking Little Happy, sinking boats, destroying equipment, and cutting off any chance of escape.

Emma and her team are forced to work together with Richardโ€™s mercenaries to try to neutralize the threat, but alliances begin to fray as greed and survival instincts take over. Tensions mount as the sharks launch increasingly brutal and methodical attacks, turning the once-idyllic island into a battleground.

The film builds to a climactic showdown as Emma faces off against the genetically enhanced predators, not just to save her team but to ensure these sharks never escape into the open ocean, where their ability to reproduce could lead to catastrophic consequences for marine ecosystems and humanity.
