Let Him Go (2020) is a neo-Western thriller film directed by Thomas Bezucha. The story follows a retired sheriff, George Blackledge (played by Kevin Costner), and his wife, Margaret (played by Diane Lane), as they embark on a dangerous journey to find and rescue their grandson after he is taken by his violent stepfather, Donnie Weboy (played by Will Brittain), and taken to a remote family in Montana.
After their son dies in a tragic accident, George and Margaret are left to care for their grandson, Jimmy. When Jimmyโs mother remarries Donnie, George and Margaretโs bond with the child deepens. But when they learn that Donnie has taken Jimmy away to a secluded ranch, they decide to take matters into their own hands.
The couple travels to Montana, where they encounter the Weboy family, a group of dangerous, violent individuals led by Blanche Weboy (played by Lesley Manville). Blanche is cold and ruthless, and George and Margaret realize that their mission to save Jimmy could cost them their lives. Tensions escalate as they confront the Weboys, leading to a violent standoff.
In the end, Let Him Go explores themes of family, loss, and the lengths to which people will go to protect their loved ones. The film is a haunting exploration of grief and the consequences of trying to right past wrongs in a world filled with violence and unforgiving people.
